📝 7-Day Drop Shipping Challenge: Testing Facebook Ads vs. TikTok Ads
Are you looking to start a dropshipping business but unsure which ad platform to use? In this 7-day dropshipping challenge, we tested Facebook ads and TikTok ads to see which one performs better. We gave ourselves 7 days to start, launch, and scale a brand new dropshipping store from the ground up, using both Facebook and TikTok ads to market the product. We used the same ad creatives on both platforms to keep as many variables the same as possible, allowing us to truly see which platform is better right now: Facebook or TikTok.
📈 The Results
After 7 days of running ads on both Facebook and TikTok, we can conclude that Facebook ads far outperformed TikTok ads. We spent $865 on Facebook ads and $920 on TikTok ads, but the total revenue generated was $1,370, resulting in a loss of $1,300. The conversion rate on the store was almost 3%, and we had a total of 10 sessions converted, 20 reached checkout, and 28 sessions added to cart.
On Facebook, we had a total of 8 purchases, with all the ad spend going directly to one ad set, resulting in a cost per result of $35. On TikTok, we had 6 conversions, but the cost per click was averaging about 86 USD across the five different ad groups we had. The CTR was much lower than we initially hoped for, and the cost per click was too high.
🤔 Final Thoughts
Although different products work better on different platforms, it’s easy to tell that Facebook is currently doing better than TikTok. This doesn’t just go for this product; it goes for a lot more products that we’ve been seeing from people we’ve been talking to as well as our own products that we’ve been running. That being said, we still use TikTok in a number of different ways organically and for paid advertising, especially when it comes to the particular product or store that we’re running.
When running paid ads, it’s a different game, and you better have a little bit of money saved up and ready to go, especially if you’re going to be testing multiple products before you find your first winner. We hope this challenge has given you some insight into which ad platform to use for your dropshipping business.
