Finding the Right Product
The first step in starting your own drop shipping business is finding the right product. You can’t create a website or advertise without a product to sell. But don’t make the mistake of thinking you can just sell anything online. You need to find a product that has an audience that will actually purchase from you.
The best way to do this is by picking a niche that you’re interested in or know a lot about. For example, if you love golf, it’s a great niche to go into because you know what products you would buy, you know competitor brands, and you know exactly what good advertisements look like in that niche.
Once you’ve picked a niche, you need to do some product research. My favorite product research method and platform is Mana. They have great features like top 10 winning products of the day by platform, and they even search for suppliers on AliExpress for you. Autod DS is another great option that has pre-built-in suppliers into their platform.
When qualifying winning products, the biggest thing you need to focus on is how many marketing angles you can come up with for that product. Marketing angles are a big key to success in finding winning products because it gives you the ability to test a product multiple different ways, targeting multiple different demographics and use cases of that product.
Building Your Shopify Store
Once you’ve found the right product, it’s time to build your Shopify store. Building a website on Shopify doesn’t require a bunch of custom coding anymore. It’s really just plug and play. Shopify is definitely my preferred method when I’m building all my stores.
When building your website, you want to make sure it looks like it’s built in 2024 and not in 2016. You don’t want a janky looking website that looks like it was put together in Microsoft Word. Your landing page should act like the salesman of your store, and you want to put a ton of time and effort into perfecting it to make it optimized as possible.
Finding a Reliable Supplier
Communication with your supplier is key. If your supplier is not responding to you or their shipping times are taking too long, you’re going to have trouble at the end, which is your customer. You need to avoid this by having a reliable supplier.
There are a bunch of different ways and options out there to find a reliable supplier. AliExpress is one option, but it’s kind of like finding a diamond in the rough. Autod DS is my number one recommendation for fulfillment with pre-built-in suppliers into their platform.
Advertising Your Product
My preferred method of advertising is still meta ads, so Facebook and Instagram. They have the best data, and their conversion rates are better on average. But it is worth mentioning that Facebook and Instagram ads are actually paid traffic.
You can also run organic traffic for free by posting content on Tik Tok and Instagram Reels to get as much engagement as possible. It’s a great way to test out marketing angles for free without going directly into paid traffic.
Fulfillment
Once you have orders coming in, you need to ship out those orders. Autod DS has a great feature called automatic order fulfillment, which saves you a lot of time. Once you have some sales and some orders come into the order section, you can set up automations to fulfill and pay for all those orders the very next day.
Continuously Testing
Just because one product is doing well, it doesn’t mean you should stop there. There are always new products to test and different marketing angles to try. The name of the game is really just trial and error and continuing to test.
